Where We Are Now
These days, we don’t use Benny as often. Jamie’s come a long way. He still has challenges, of course. But now, when we walk into a room, he looks around. He asks people their names. He laughs at jokes, even makes a few of his own. Last week, he asked if he could join the chess club. I almost cried in the car.
Therapy robots didn’t do all of that. But they were a part of it. A meaningful part.
The Bigger Picture
I think sometimes we assume technology makes us more distant. And in some cases, sure—it can. But in our experience, it did the opposite. It created a bridge between Jamie and the rest of the world. One that was quiet, steady, and never judgmental.
